Jeffersonville OKs street, parking plan for Thunder

Jeffersonville’s Board of Public Works and Safety approved the city’s street closure and parking plan for Thunder Over Louisville on Wednesday morning, a press release from the city says. Thunder Over Louisville takes place April 12.



Streets closed to automobile traffic,

beginning at 8 a.m. April 12

• Market Street exit ramp from southbound Interstate 65.

• Court Avenue exit ramp from northbound I-65.

• Riverside Drive from Jeffboat to Clarksville.

• Market Street from Mulberry Street to Clarksville.

• Southern Indiana Avenue from West Court Avenue to Riverside Drive.

• Missouri Avenue from Clark Boulevard to Market Street.

• Access road along the Ohio River from Jeffboat to the Kennedy Bridge.

• Alleys north and south of the floodwall from Jeffboat to Clarksville.

• Spring, Wall, Locust and Walnut streets, each from Market Street to Riverside Drive.

• West Court Avenue, north of Broadway.

• West Court Avenue entrance ramp to southbound I-65.

• Ohio River Greenway

All of the above-mentioned streets will be open to local residential traffic until 5 p.m. Residents will be permitted access between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. if they have documentation — such as a driver’s license or utility bill — demonstrating that they live in the area they are trying to reach. Streets will reopen following the fireworks display, once Police Chief Tim Deeringer deems them safe for vehicles.



No parking from 8 a.m. until midnight

• Riverside Drive from Jeffboat to Clarksville.

• Market Street from Mulberry Street to Clarksville.

• Southern Indiana Avenue from Riverside Drive to West Court Avenue.

• Missouri Avenue from Market Street to Clark Boulevard.

• RiverPointe Plaza from Market Street to Riverside Drive.

• The city-owned parking lots beneath the Kennedy Bridge and along Riverside Drive.

• Spring Street from Market Street to Riverside Drive.

Wall, Locus and Walnut streets from Market Street to Riverside Drive, however resident-only, on-street parking is permitted.



Handicapped parking

Approximately 25 to 30 handicapped parking spaces will be available in the city-owned parking lot beneath the Kennedy Bridge and north of the floodwall. Parking is by permit only. Permits are available between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Jeffersonville Police Department, located on the first floor of City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court. There is no fee for the handicapped parking permits, but to obtain one Jeffersonville residents must present their vehicle registration, window placard and accompanying documentation and driver’s license.



Event area prohibitions

• Alcoholic beverages on city-owned property.

• Animals, other than those assisting humans for medical reasons.

• Recreational vehicles.

• Open-flame fires.

• Tents.

• Portable buildings.

• Tarps.

• Skateboards.

• Bicycles.

• Motorized scooters.

• Golf carts, other than those used by the Kentucky Derby Festival Committee and working emergency services personnel.
