A New Albany man was arrested after a high-speed chase that ended with a wreck near Borden on Tuesday night.

Michael Wayne Basham, 32, was spotted by two Floyd County Sheriff’s Department officers at 11:41 p.m. reportedly riding his motorcycle at approximately 90 mph westbound on U.S. 150 in Floyds Knobs, Detective Capt. Jeff Topping said.

Officer Jeremy Furmall and Lt. Gabe Kelly were stopped in a parking lot near Buck Creek Road when they noticed the motorcycle speeding by. They pursued the 1996 Suzuki Katana 750 for several miles as Basham allegedly continued to flee at a high rate of speed.

Basham turned onto Borden Road and then lost control and crashed into a field at Chapel Hill Road in Borden, Topping said. A police cruiser that was in pursuit also crashed, and there was damage to the vehicle. Basham refused medical treatment, and the officers were not injured.

Basham was charged with reckless driving and possession of marijuana less than 30 grams.

He is being held in the Floyd County Jail, awaiting his first court appearance.
