IUS to host open house Saturday

The IU Southeast spring open house is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 8, in University Center North.

Future students wanting to learn more about Indiana University Southeast's campus and what it has to offer are encouraged to attend the upcoming open house.

Students will learn more about admissions, academics, financial aid, housing facilities, student services, campus life, and graduate programs.

Scheduled activities throughout the day include tours offered every half hour, an academic and student services fair from 9 a.m. to noon, financial aid workshops at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., and departmental open houses from 11 a.m. to noon.

Hosparus in need of volunteers

Hosparus Southern Indiana needs patient support volunteers in Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties and will host a free training at its new location in New Albany, 502 Hausfeldt Lane, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 22. Lunch will be provided.

Volunteers help with patient and family support, administrative duties and development/fundraising. Hosparus carefully selects volunteers and provides them with comprehensive training specially designed to meet the needs of patients and families. Hosparus volunteers must have available transportation and complete training and an application process.

Optimist Club yard sale March 8

The Georgetown Optimist Club is hosting a community yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 8.

Concessions provided will include biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Items for sale will include Nascar, golf balls, Jamberry Nails and Pampered Chef products. Proceeds to help buy equipment for newly formed 4-H Archery Club for kids.

Church holding German supper

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 5231 Ind. 62, Georgetown, is hosting its annual German supper from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the church.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 10. On the menu are fresh Merkley’s sausages, homemade German potato salad, sauerkraut, green beans, mashed potatoes, breads, desserts and drinks. Hot-dogs and mac and cheese are available for the kids.

Diabetes update seminar at FMH

The Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services Joslin Diabetes Center affiliate is sponsoring a free diabetes update seminar, 8 a.m. to noon (registration and breakfast open at 7:30 a.m.) Saturday, March 8, at Floyd Memorial Hospital Paris Health Education Center, 1850 State St., New Albany.

Learn about the link between diabetes and heart disease; and what you can do about it, hear tips and tricks from a fellow diabetes patient who has successfully gotten their hemoglobin A1C under control and learn about the latest diabetes research being done at the University of Louisville. Republican women to meet

The monthly meeting of Clark County Republican Women will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at 440 Spring St., Jeffersonville (upstairs).

The meeting is free, however, yearly membership dues are required.

St. Joe Hill fish fry during Lent

St. Joe Hill Parish, St. Joe Road East, Sellersburg, will be hosting a fish fry, every Friday during Lent, except on Good Friday.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.


Tea Party to meet tonight

The Clark County Tea Party invites the public to the group's weekly meeting, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 6, at Silver Creek Middle School, 495 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg.

Featured guest speaker will be Indiana State Executive Officer of Patriots of America/Indiana Patricia Williams, who will be speaking about the “Operation American Spring” event on May 16, in Washington, D.C. The mission of Patriots of America is the restoration of Constitutional government from tyrannical leadership.
