Police: Burglar targets New Albany home four times

Teen found in residence by police

NEW ALBANY — A New Albany teenager was arrested after police found him in a vacant home Friday afternoon.

New Albany police reported Jesse Keith Stockton, 18, MacArthur Drive, had broken into a Beechwood Avenue home where he was found inside.

Stockton told police he had recently entered the home on three previous occasions, and each time he’d taken items from the property.

Officers had responded to the home on a call of a “suspicious male ... walking around the residence.”

Once at the home, police found a busted window at the rear of residence.

After climbing over a padlocked fence, officers approached the broken window and located a stool in front of the window.

At that time, police heard noise coming from inside the home.

Officers entered the home and located Stockton, who matched the physical description provided previously by dispatch.

Stockton told the officers that the first time he had entered the home, he had gone through a window that had already been broken. He said on that occasion, he had unlocked a rear door, which he entered through the remaining times.

He told police he was looking for items that he could use for scrap, according to the police report.

Since his arrest, Stockton has been charged with class C felony burglary in Floyd County Circuit Court and placed under a $10,000 court-cash bond.
