Lancaster’s Cafe leaving New Albany

Cafeteria moving to Clarksville

NEW ALBANY — After six successful years at 223 W. 5th St. in New Albany, Lancaster’s Cafe is moving to Clarksville.

Troy Lancaster, owner of the popular cafeteria, said his last day in New Albany will be Friday, June 28. He said he hopes to open in his new location along Lewis and Clark Parkway, which used to house Ponderosa Steakhouse, by July 8.

Lancaster said he was unable to reach a lease agreement with the Padgett family, who owns the New Albany building.

“It just came down to we couldn’t get together on a lease,” he said. “It will all work out.”

June 28 will mark the first time in 60 years that a Lancaster’s restaurant will not be in New Albany. His grandfather opened Tommy Lancaster’s Restaurant at 1629 E. Market St., and it was eventually taken over by his father Mike, who eventually sold it. The restaurant has since closed.

“We have been blessed and fortunate to have such loyal customers,” Lancaster said. “We have had so many customers upset that we are not staying in New Albany.”

Lancaster said he was looking for a second location in Clarksville before deciding to leave his New Albany location. He said once the restaurant closes at the end of the day June 28, all of his equipment will be moved to his new home in Clarksville. He said he has to be out of the New Albany restaurant June 30.
