Driver of 2012 Ind. 111 accident in Floyd County pleads guilty

NEW ALBANY —  A Louisville man involved in an automobile accident near Horseshoe Southern Indiana last year that left four people dead entered a guilty plea Friday.

Charles M. Barlow, 33, is claimed to have driven a Yellow Cab taxi with three passengers in excess of 80 mph along Ind. 111 before colliding with another vehicle.

Officials have reported Barlow drove the vehicle off the road, overcorrected and struck an oncoming Cadillac moments before midnight Oct. 28.

The taxicab passengers and the driver of Cadillac  were all killed.

The driver of the Cadillac died after being transported from the wreckage by air ambulance.

The occupants in the taxi cab never made it out of the vehicle that became engulfed in flames after the collision. Officials previously said the bodies of the taxicab passengers were burnt beyond recognition.

Officials reported the taxi was fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived to the scene.

All the victims were Louisville residents.

During the hearing, Barlow pled guilty to one count causing death when operating a motor vehicle with an ACE of .15 percent or more, a class B felony; three counts of reckless homicide, a class C felony; and habitual offender enhancement.  

Barlow is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 13 in Floyd County Superior Court No. 1.
