Man who was stabbed is expected to recover

NEW ALBANY — A New Albany man faces aggravated battery charges after police say he stabbed a man Saturday morning in the White Castle parking lot.

Charles A. Jecker, 26, who told arresting officers the was homeless, is charged with the stabbing of 32-year-old Scott M. Powers, 32, of Clarksville, following an argument near a parked car at about 8:45 a.m. at the restaurant at Spring and Vincennes streets.

A woman with Powers drove him to Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany and he was later transferred to University Hospital in Louisville. He underwent emergency surgery at the hospital for a chest wound and is expected to recover.

During a New Albany Police Department investigation, Jecker was identified as a suspect and New Albany officers learned that he had outstanding robbery warrants in Clark County. Jecker was located and taken into custody at a home in the 4300 block of Grant Line Road in New Albany.

While being interviewed at NAPD headquarters, Jecker was found in possession of methamphetamine.

Jecker was taken to the Floyd County Jail on preliminary charges of aggravated battery, a class B felony, and possession of methamphetamine, a class D felony.

The investigation is ongoing by NAPD detectives. There was no further information about the case available Monday via online court records.
