Hosparus offers volunteer training April 13
Hosparus Southern Indiana needs patient care volunteers who live in Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties. Hosparus will offer free volunteer training from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at its New Albany office, 624 E. Market St. Lunch will be provided. Volunteers help with patient and family support, administrative duties and development/fundraising. Hosparus carefully selects volunteers and provides them with comprehensive training specially designed to meet the needs of patients and families. Hosparus volunteers must have available transportation and complete training and an application process.
Bridge Liquor celebrating 50 years
Bridge Liquor in New Albany has 50 reasons to celebrate. On Friday, April 12, the New Albany liquor store, at 110 Knable Lane, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with food, beer samplings, giveaways and music. The festivities are from 4 to 8 p.m.
Bridge Liquor was opened by veterinarian Dr. Joseph Knable and has maintained family ownership over the past five decade. His niece, Susan Kerber, is the longtime manager at Bridge.
The liquor store moved to its current building 35 years ago and has expanded three times. It carries a large selection of local craft beers and wines.
Spanish Theatre coming to library
Would you like to see a play in Spanish? El Delirio Producciones will perform a portion of its latest production titled “Soy una mujer” at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library at 7 p.m. Monday, April 8., in the Strassweg Auditorium.
The production includes three monologues and a portion of the monologues will be in Spanish. Programs with English translation will be available. There will be refreshments following the program.

AARP to meet April 12
AARP, Floyd County Chapter, will meet at 1 p.m. Friday, April 12, at St. John’s Church, at the corner of 13th and Elm streets, New Albany.
Highlights include a speaker, drawing for a door prize and 50/50. Refreshments will be provided and guests are welcome. For more information, call 812-944-9525.
Sorority hosting fondue party
Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Theta Iota Chapter, will hold its annual fondue card party at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Silver Creek Middle School, 495 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg. Admission is $7 per person. Raffle tickets will be on sale that evening for an Apple iPad. The national project of Phi Beta Psi Sorority is cancer research grants.
Indoor yard sale set
The Georgetown Optimist Club is hosting an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 13. The cost is $10 for table rental and concessions will be available.

Clark Memorial to host baby fair
Clark Memorial Hospital will host a baby fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 13, in the main lobby of the hospital. The event is free and open to women and their families who are expecting a baby or planning to have a baby.
The event will feature more than 35 information booths and vendors providing expecting families the opportunity to visit with pediatricians, obstetricians and community groups. Information at the booths will include birthing options, postpartum depression, early childhood development, breastfeeding and support for siblings. Tours of the Family Birth Place will be offered, and participants can sign up for door prizes.
Attendees can also participate in a question-and-answer session with labor and delivery nurses during the “Clark Delivers” session offered at both 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
Kara Dietrich Brown with the March of Dimes will give a presentation on the “39 Weeks Quality Initiative” at 10:30 a.m. This national initiative focuses on the importance of fetal development in the womb and the importance of carrying a baby the full 39 to 40 weeks.

Backyard Classics hosts car show
The Backyard Classics Car Club will host a car show on the second Friday of each month from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning April 12 on the Square in downtown Charlestown.
The event is free. All vehicles, motorcycles or even bicycles are eligible to participate.
Cemetery sponsoring fish fry
The Utica Hillcrest Cemetery Association will sponsor a fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, at the Utica Community Center.
The menu will include fish, fries or baked potato, slaw, dessert and drink, $8. A kids meal of a hot dog, fries, dessert and drink will cost $5. Carryout is available. A raffle on a flat screen television will also take place.
Proceeds benefit the upkeep of the cemetery.
