Weather forecast: Record soggy October gives way to drier November

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — As November arrives the days continue to get shorter. In fact we’ll change our clocks this weekend, falling back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday. We leave October on a record wet note with over ten inches of rain, making it the wettest October in Louisville’s history.

Northerly winds are ushering in cooler air behind the cold front that brought us more rain and gusty winds. Winds were gusting as high as 50 mph Thursday evening, making for less than ideal conditions for trick-or-treating. If you’re headed out this evening or over the weekend it won’t be quite as warm, but drier and calmer conditions are expected. Look for some sunshine late in the weekend with highs remaining in the 50s both days. Morning lows early Sunday will dip into the 30s. Normally temperatures top out in the mid 60s and get down into the mid 40s for lows this time of year.

Fall color update: The winds yesterday took off quite a few of the leaves off the trees but otherwise we’re at about 95 percent of peak color. By all accounts this weekend will be among the best to view fall color across Southern Indiana.
