Tips to go to Special Olympics

From 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 10 Floyd Memorial Hospital associates, ranging from a vice president, to nursing staff to an IT manager, will act as “celebrity servers” at Tumbleweed Restaurant, State Street in New Albany, to raise funds for Special Olympics Indiana.

During the night, all server tips will be donated to Special Olympics, a silent auction and raffle will take place and $1 from every Double Barrel Brownie Dessert sold will all go to Special Olympics Indiana, with the goal of raising more than $2,000.

Journey along the Lewis and Clark Trail

Elizabeth Tidwell, author of “War Club: A Journey of Understanding Along the Lewis and Clark Trail,” will be at New Albany-Floyd County Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 13, to speak about her book.

 War Club is based on the author’s memoirs of her own journey along the trail and the discoveries and insights she has gained along the way. The event will be held in the Strassweg Auditorium from 7 to 8 p.m. Tidwell will have copies of her book available.

Floyd County taxes due Nov. 13

Floyd County Treasurer Linda Berger reminds residents that the second installment of property taxes is due no later than Tuesday, Nov. 13. The deadline is extended because Nov. 10 is on a Saturday and Monday, Nov. 12, is when the country will celebrate Veterans Day and the City-County Building will be closed.

Taxes may be paid at most area banks. You will need to take your tax bill with you to the banks. PNC customers are welcome to use any other area bank to pay their taxes.

Taxes may also be mailed to Floyd County Treasurer, PO Box 2010, New Albany, IN, 47151. Postmarks will be accepted. Penalties will be assessed on Wed., Nov. 14.

SPEED

MOPS to meet Monday

MOPS of Clark County will be holding its meeting from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Speed Memorial Church, 328 U.S. 31, Speed.

Moms will be discussing the importance of self-care for mothers. Included will be some sharing of ideas of healthy stress management strategies and ways to keep oneself balanced, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Leading the discussion will be Mindy Davis, LPCC, who is a licensed therapist and MOPS member. Refreshments will be available for mothers and children. Experienced childcare providers will supervise children in a variety of activities in the next room.
