Camp Quality Kentuckiana in Henryville adds to executive staff

Event for cancer-stricken children to be held in June

HENRYVILLE — Camp Quality Kentuckiana, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide a week-long camping experience and year round support to children with cancer and their families, has added to its executive staff.

Camp Quality promotes hope and inspiration while helping children foster life skills and develop their full potential, according to Eddie Bobbitt, who was recently named director of development for Camp Quality.

The organization serves children with cancer and their families by providing year-round programs, experiences, and companionship, at no cost. This year’s camp will be held June 22 through 27 at Country Lake Retreat in Henryville.

The organization also appointed Charlie Orbranowicz as its new executive director.

Obranowicz brings a wealth of experience to the Camp Quality Kentuckiana organization, according to a news release. Obranowicz received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Western Kentucky University in recreation administration. While in Bowling Green, he directed summer day and residential camps for the developmentally disabled.

As executive director for the Lompoc ARC in California, Charlie directed the residential special populations camp programs for Santa Barbara County. His involvement in the Kentucky and the California Special Olympics programs eventually lead to employment as the program director for the Mississippi Special Olympics and then as the Games Director for the Georgia Special Olympics. During his years with the Georgia Special Olympics, Charlie also served as the “Head of Delegation” for the World Summer Games at Notre Dame and the World Winter Games at Park City, Utah.

Utilizing his event experience, Charlie was hired to assist with creating the first Georgia State Games, a multi-sports festival. This position eventually lead to his appointment as the first executive director of the Greater Augusta Sports Commission where he secured and directed national (USA Men Gymnastic Championships) and international (USA vs. Russia Boxing) events.

“We are very fortunate to have found such an experienced person for this position. His hard work and dedication will make him very successful as the executive director of Camp Quality Kentuckiana,” Jessica Stumler, personnel committee chairwoman for Camp Quality Kentuckiana, said in the release.

Bobbitt is an academic counselor with the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center at the University of Louisville. He primarily works with political science and paralegal studies majors in the social science division. He has a bachelor’s in sports administration and a masters’ degree in higher education administration. He has been with Camp Quality USA for six years and has served previously in development with for other non-profit organizations. Some of his previous work includes fundraising for the Special Olympics of Kentucky, holding youth workshops for the Community foundations of Southern Indiana and last October he co-organized a 5k run/silent auction for the Love for Lilly Foundation, an organization that seeks to raise awareness and funding for children diagnosed with Leukemia.

“Eddie’s passion for Camp Quality is contagious,” Stumler said. “He has a passion for helping people through all walks of life through his volunteer work and fundraising efforts. His energy and drive will ensure that he will be extremely successful in this position. We couldn’t be happier to have him as our new director of development.”
