Man found hanged, dead in Floyd County Jail

NEW ALBANY —

An inmate in the Floyd County Jail was found dead in his cell Saturday morning.

Tony Pedigo, 33, Scottsburg, was discovered about 9:40 a.m. Saturday. The incident is being investigated by the Indiana State Police, according to Sgt. Jerry Goodin, ISP spokesman.

“The cause of death is consistent with hanging injuries,” Goodin said.

Signs of foul play were not immediately apparent, Goodin said.

Staff at the Floyd County Jail said they could not release any details about Pedigo or the incident. Charges  have not been filed against a Tony Pedigo in Floyd County, according to the State of Indiana Public Records Inquiry website.

Goodin said Pedigo had been held at the Floyd County Jail for “at least a couple of weeks,” but the reason Pedigo was there has not been released.
