YMCA holding membership drive
The YMCA of Southern Indiana is holding a membership campaign where residents pay no joiner fee through Wednesday, Jan. 16.
The YMCA offers a variety of programs to help achieve greater health and well-being, nurture youth and inspire individuals to give back to better their community. These programs include: personal training, swim lessons, youth sports and more.

Reception to honor Knight
A public reception honoring Yvonne B. Knight on the occasion of her retirement will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Howard Steamboat Museum & Mansion, 1101 E. Market St., Jeffersonville.
Knight has served with great dedication, beginning with volunteer work at the museum in 1979 and becoming administrator in 1991.
Knight is succeeded by Keith E. Norrington, who has assumed the dual role of curator and director. Norrington has been involved with the museum for more than 40 years, starting as a volunteer guide in 1968.
Art program beginning this year
Beginning in 2013, the Jeffersonville Township Public Library will be offering a continuing monthly series titled “ArtSpace: Learn Create Enjoy.”
To start off this series, Artist Ray Day will be showcased from 2 to 3 p.m. Jan. 19.
A teacher for 34 years at Our Lady of Providence High School, Day developed Studio Arts and Theatre Arts programs, produced and directed drama and musical productions, taught Acting and Theatre Production and served as designer and technical director through 1988.
Day continued teaching Studio Art until retiring in March 1996. Following six years of full-time art work, he returned to Providence in 2002 as Director of Development and Institutional Advancement. For more information, call 812-285-5635, or visit jefflibrary.org
Chili cook-off set for Thursday
The Jeffersonville High School Winter Percussion chili cook-off will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Jeffersonville High School Cafeteria, 2315 Allison Lane, Jeffersonville,
The cost is $5 per person with proceeds going to support the JHS Winter Percussion. Admission includes unlimited chili, lemonade, tea and a performance by the JHS Percussion.
Baked goods and sodas available at concessions for additional cost.

The regular monthly meeting of the New Albany Housing Authority Board of commissioners will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the 300 Building, 300 Erni Avenue, New Albany.
Make felt penguins at the library
The Carnegie Center Free Family Fun Workshop for January will be felt penguin making from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 12, at the center, 201 E. Spring St., New Albany.
Participants will be making felt penguins using empty toilet paper rolls, felt, craft foam, baby socks, wiggle eyes, pom-poms and ribbon. Adults need to bring an empty cardboard toilet paper roll for each child. Registration is required and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Alumni night set for Saturday
The annual Alumni Night at Floyd Central High School will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, between the girls’ 2:30 p.m. and boys’ 6 p.m. basketball games.

Fundraising concert for local band set
A fundraising concert for the band Fenderella will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Gilbert’s Bar & Grill, 4950 Terry Road, Louisville. The event is being sponsored by Jimmy’s Music Center, New Albany, and will fund sending Fenderella to the NAMM show in California.
Tickets are $10 per person. There will be live music by Olivia Henken, Jimmy G. and the Sidewinders, Fenderella and more.
