Tornado watch issued for Clark, Floyd counties

Lasts until 8 p.m.

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Clark and Floyd counties are among five Indiana counties under a tornado watch until 8 p.m.

The other counties affected by the watch, which was announced by the National Weather Service at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, are Crawford, Harrison and Perry counties.

“Low pressure will be developing across Tennessee by around mid- to late-afternoon and moving up almost right over Louisville but possibly to our west,” said John Denman, meteorologist with the NWS. “So although the conditions aren’t perfectly good for tornadoes right now, we do expect them to become a little better this afternoon.”

Denman said the chance of a tornado actually making landfall in Clark and Floyd counties is “pretty low,” as the area is in the western edge of the anticipated storm. Widespread wind damage in Southern Indiana is not anticipated, Denman said.

“I thnk there’ll be a threat for an isolated ttornado or isolated wind damage, and I think that threat is actually a little bit stronger across the Bluegrass and Lake Cumberland [Kentucky] areas, which have more instability than we do,” Denman said.
