New Albany recycled 1.61 million pounds in 2013

NEW ALBANY —  More than 1.6 million pounds of materials collected by Ecotech/Southern Indiana Waste Systems in New Albany last year were kept out of the Clark-Floyd Landfill.

“The citizens of New Albany have again demonstrated their concern for our environment through their continued recycling efforts,” SIWS President Robert Lee stated in a news release.

He credited an “increased emphasis” on training and operating techniques by professionals that serve the city for helping to promote and grow New Albany’s recycling program.

Ecotech is based in Jeffersonville, and operates SIWS and the Clark-Floyd Landfill. New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan said he was encouraged that 1.61 million pounds of materials collected by SIWS were recycled in 2013.

“We have many people in New Albany who are committed to keeping New Albany an eco-friendly city,” he said. “Let’s keep working to make 2014 another record recycling year.”
