Public welcome at Town Clock Church ceremony Tuesday in New Albany

NEW ALBANY — The public is invited to a ceremony at the historic Town Clock Church in New Albany on Tuesday, July 16, which will feature the lifting of the clock faces back atop the building’s tower.

The event begins at 10 a.m. in the parking lot opposite the church at the intersection of Main Street and Third Street.

The refurbishment project includes plans by the city to replace the spire of the church which was completed in 1852. Private fundraising has also contributed heavily to the project including supporting the refurbishment of the clock faces.

The church is now the home of Second Baptist Church, and the building has ties to the Underground Railroad of the Civil War era.
