Kennedy Bridge work shifting to northbound lane

LOUISVILLE — Inspection work that has shut down the right lane on the southbound side of the Interstate 65 Kennedy Bridge is switching directions.

Crews are expected to finish their work on I-65 south late Thursday and begin construction on I-65 northbound, according to a press release from the Ohio River Bridges Project.

Signage will begin going up on I-65 north Friday morning, July 19, with the right two lanes of I-65 north expected to close. The other two lanes of I-65 north will remain open. A third lane of I-65 north may close at times during the weekend, leaving only the inside lane of traffic open, according to the release.

Two lanes of I-65 north will be open by 5 a.m. Monday. The two outside lanes will remain closed next week, until the inspection is complete.

Walsh Construction is overseeing the short-term inspection of the bridge to finalize design plans for the redecking work in 2016. The actual starting time and duration of the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
