Charlestown

Back to School Bash, 6 p.m., today, Greenway Park. Charlestown Parks & Recreation will be giving away 500 backpacks to Charlestown School district children grades K-12 during its fourth annual “Back to School Bash.” Backpacks will be filled with school supplies, health and beauty items, healthy snacks, and more. Be a part of this fun, family event and help our kids get off to a great start to the 2013-14 school year. This is a family event, hosted by The Charlestown Parks and Recreation Department. No political groups, please.

Bonus Event

FandomFest, today-Sunday, Kentucky International Convention Center; The Galt House Hotel and Convention Center. Fandomfest is the largest Comic-Con or multiplatform convention in the mid-America region. More than 16,700 people attended in 2012 and the 2013 convention looks like it will top 20,000.

FandomFest is a Comic-Con that includes fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, horror, anime, literary, technology, film, gaming, vending, cosplay, costuming, LARPing, parties, KIDPALOOZA, seminars, Q and A’s, celebrities from TV, movies and more.

It’s just like Comic-Con in California as far as what you will find there.
