New Albany Subway robbed

Suspect apparently also robbed two Louisville Subway locations

NEW ALBANY — The New Albany Police Department is investigating the Nov. 9 robbery of a Subway restaurant, located at 2441 State St., New Albany, that could be connected to other area Subway robberies.

The suspect matches the description given to police in multiple Subway restaurant robberies in the Southern Indiana and Louisville area. The suspect is reported to be wearing a gauze or medical style patch over his left eye. He also had on navy blue overall type clothing with a hoody and black baseball hat. The hat had the Bacardi logo on it with the words Bacardi.

New Albany Police Capt. Ken Fudge told newsgathering partner WAVE 3 News that the robber knew what he was doing when he entered the Subway restaurant along State Street.

“My guess would be either somebody who thought this out or had done robberies like this before,” Fudge told WAVE 3.

The suspect also had a dust mask covering his mouth. Police said he ordered a 12-inch ham sub, but when it came time to pay that is when he pulled out the gun.

“When the money was going to exchange hands for the transaction for the purchase of the sandwich is when he displayed the gun,”  Fudge said.

He then passed the clerk a note demanding money. After the clerk filled his bag, the suspect took off with his sandwich in hand.

“In the Louisville cases it appears that he did the exact same thing as he did here at the New Albany store,” Fudge said.

Subway restaurants on Bardstown Road and Fern Creek in Louisville were both robbed Nov. 2.
