NEWS AND TRIBUNE BRIEFS — For Oct. 2

NEW ALBANY

Church histories book available

To celebrate New Albany’s 200th Birthday in 2013, a book, “200 Years of Church Histories,” has been prepared to include the New Albany and Floyd County churches and their histories. The book is available for $15 with all profits going to Hope Southern Indiana, formerly Interfaith Community Council.

The books are available at several local businesses: Ben Franklin, J.O. Endris Jewelers, Gallery on Pearl, and Strandz & Threadz. It will also be available during the Harvest Homecoming Festival on October 10, 11, 12, and 13. The New Albany Bicentennial booth, which will be selling the books, will be located on Pearl Street, between Market and Spring Streets.

For further information, please contact Dave or Debbie Barksdale at 812-945-1839.

Holy Land trip offered

Pastor Bill Shannon will depart on a 10-day trip to the land he has studied about his whole life. The journey will include touring of Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jericho, the Mount of Olives, the Upper room, the Old city of Jerusalem, the Garden tomb and more.

Pastor Shannon will bring members of Trinity United Methodist Church and interested persons in the community in hopes that the trip will awaken an understanding of the teachings of Jesus, rejuvenate their spiritual life and enhance the relationships between his church members.

The travel/study program has been arranged by Educational Opportunities, a Christian tour company whose main objective is to provide pastors and their congregations affordable, first class learning experiences in the Lands of the Bible. The program will combine sightseeing with informative lectures. The cost of the pilgrimage is an all-inclusive price of $3,396 from Louisville. The journey is open to all church members, their family and area friends.

All interested individuals are invited to an informational meeting, 3 p.m., Oct. 6, at Trinity Church, 2796 Charlestown Road, New Albany.

For more information, contact Mary Evans at 812-944-2229.
