WEATHER: Expected rain prompts flood watch for Clark, Floyd, Harrison counties

Between 2 and 4 inches of rain predicted for this weekend

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — WAVE 3 News’ Brian Goode says to expect spotty showers and some rumbles of thunder on Friday after rain moves in Thursday night, with temperatures remaining warm in the 60s on Friday.

Saturday will feature heavier rain early in the day with a break toward evening, especially across Kentucky. Then overnight and early Sunday, a line of rain and storms will push through the region.

Heavy rain is expected with that band as well as strong gusty winds. Rain amounts of one to two inches possible south and east of Louisville, and two to five inches north and west of Louisville.

Due to the rain, the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Clark, Floyd and Harrison counties. According to the  NWS, rain will flood low-lying fields and bring sharp rises across smaller streams and creeks. Excessive rain may bring larger rivers and streams into flooding early next week.

Once the front passes by mid-morning Sunday, expect a windy and colder afternoon to develop. Snow flurries are possible by Monday.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day still have a dry look with some light snow possible the on Dec. 26.
