Purdue College of Technology gets new leader

Andrew Takami takes over as director

NEW ALBANY — A familiar face will head up the newest higher education facility in Clark and Floyd counties.

Andrew Takami will become the new director of the Purdue University College of Technology in New Albany on Thursday. Takami has worked for Ivy Tech Community College for seven years as the executive director of college advancement and previously at Indiana University Southeast as the manager of alumni affairs and special events.

“I feel really blessed about this opportunity to impact our region, a place that I have been born and raised, a place that I call home, a place that I work and play and raise a family in,” Takami said. “I feel really blessed to be able to impact on a broader scale with this position, higher education and the people that live here.”

The 33-year-old has worked in fundraising, government and community relations and other leadership roles in local universities.

Takami will replace Andrew Schaffer at the university, who is now the associate dean and leads Purdue’s eight college of technology locations across the state.

He said he wants to continue raising the community’s awareness of Purdue University College of Technology, boost enrollment and possibly begin bachelor degree programs.

“I’m delighted and I look forward to working on a broader scale with our educational partners in K-12, our higher educational partners at IU Southeast and Ivy Tech Community College among others, and community leaders and donors  in doing Purdue’s part in the overall advancement of our region,” Takami said. “I’m looking forward to leading Purdue’s stake in that effort.”
