Overturned semitrailer closes interstate ramp, no serious injuries

52,000 pounds of steel dumped

CLARKSVILLE — A semitrailer overturned on the eastbound ramp from Interstate 65 South to Ind. 265 East this morning and resulted in a closure of the ramp for several hours, Indiana State Police reported.

ISP responded to the scene about 9:15 a.m. and no one was seriously hurt during the wreck.

“When troopers arrived, they found a 1996 Freightliner semi-tractor and a 1999 Reitnouer trailer overturned with its load of 52,120 pounds of steel lying on the ground near the trailer,” ISP released in a statement.

The driver of the semitrailer, Lorenzo Terrazas-Rodriguez, 40, of Calumet City, Ill., sustained a nonlife threatening injury to his arm, according to ISP.

Troopers reported the semitrailer had to be towed from the scene and the spilled steel has to be loaded onto another semitrailer. ISP reported the preliminary cause of the crash as excessive speed along the exit ramp. Terrazas-Rodrigues was issued a citation for speed too fast to avoid a collision.

ISP reported the roadway is expected to be closed to until about 2:30 p.m.
