Masked man breaks into Floyd County Sav-A-Step

Safe and ATM disturbed

FLOYD COUNTY — An unidentified burglar broke into a safe and an automatic teller machine during a burglary at a Floyd County convenience story early Tuesday morning.

Forced entry was made into a Sav-A-Step store on St. Joe Road, across Charlestown Road from Prosser School of Technology, near the New Albany city line, while the business was closed, Floyd County Sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Topping said.

Around 4:30 a.m. an employee, who had arrived for a work shift, called authorities after finding the front doors to the building had be pried open.

Topping said and undisclosed amount of cash was taken from a safe. An ATM inside the store had been pried open, but it remains undetermined at this point in the investigation if money was extracted.

Topping said it appears a single masked suspect entered the business between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. and spent up to an hour to complete the burglary and rummage through the drawers of an office.

Investigators continue to review surveillance footage, and the investigation is ongoing. An arrest has not been made. Anyone with information on the crime should call 812-948-5400.
