IU Southeast hires new vice chancellors

Dufrene, Meriwether replacing interim positions

NEW ALBANY —

Two new vice chancellors have been selected by Indiana University Southeast to assist in academic and student affairs.

Uric Dufrene has been named the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Jason Meriwether has been hired as Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.

Dufrene has served as the Sanders Chair in Business at IU Southeast since 2006. Originally from Mathews, La., he has been a faculty member at IUS for 21 years

“A solid foundation is in place, and I look forward to working with our community of stakeholders in advancing the academic quality and mission of IU Southeast,” Dufrene stated in a news release. “The academic mission of IU Southeast is critical to the economic development of our community, and it is my vision to elevate that role in the entire region.”

Meriwether most recently served as Vice President of Student Engagement and Enrollment Management at Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn. He also held several other positions during his tenure at Fisk University, and also worked at Loyola Marymount University, Georgia Southern University and the University of Louisville.

Meriwether is a native of Guthrie, Ky., and earned a bachelor’s degree from U of L, and holds a master’s degree from Fisk University.

“Joining the IU Southeast community provides an amazing opportunity to engage an incredible population of students as they excel in academics, leadership, and service,” Meriwether stated in a news release. “I am both humbled and excited to serve the great state of Indiana and to collaborate with faculty, students, and the entire campus community to continue the tradition of success at IU Southeast.”

The hires are replacing interim positions. Anne Skuce is serving as the interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and Curt Peters as the interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs until July 1.
