SOUTHERN INDIANA

Falls hosting Discovery Day

Falls of the Ohio State Park’s Earth Discovery Day on Saturday, Aug. 24, will highlight the geologic wonders of the planet through activities and programs. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visitors can experience a 5.5- to 8.0-magnitude earthquake in the Indiana Geological Survey’s Quake Cottage, take a guided tour of the park’s fossil beds, dig for fossils and minerals in the park’s collecting piles, learn about trilobites from experts from the Indiana State Museum and Illinois Geological Survey, participate in children’s crafts with a geological theme and more.

All activities are free with admission to the Interpretive Center, 201 W. Riverside Drive, Clarksville. Admission costs $2 for ages 2-18 or $5 for ages 19 and older, or free with an annual Indiana State Parks & Reservoirs entrance pass.

Historical Society to meet

The Floyd County Historical Society will have its August meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at The Villages at Historic Silvercrest, One Silvercrest Drive — formerly 1809 Old Vincennes Road — New Albany.

Matt Chalfant and Ross Oberhausen will present the program titled: “The Villages at Historic Silvercrest: The history and reuse of the historic structure.”

The meeting is free and open to the public.

‘101 Dalmatians’ production planned

“101 Dalmatians Kids ... A Labor Day Weekend Adventure!” will be presented Aug. 30 and Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. at Floyd Central High School Studio One, 6575 Old Vincennes Road, Floyds Knobs.

Tickets for the 30 minute show are $5 each. For more information, call 812-542-2284

NEW ALBANY

Create a garden stake at library

The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library invites adult crafters to the monthly Make It-Take It Mystical Garden Stake at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, in the Applegate Room.

This is your opportunity to join Julee Lair and create a garden stake that will make your garden blossom.
