Top 5 Things to Do

Our picks for what’s going on around Southern Indiana this weekend

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — • Earth Discovery Day; Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Falls of the Ohio State Park, 201 W. Riverside Drive, Clarksville; $5 ages 19 and older; $2 ages 18 and younger; free ages 2 and under. The museum will host children’s rock-craft activities. Listen to geoscience speakers, discover geology through a microscope with microfossils and microminerals. Learn how to photograph specimens [helpful if you want to get something identified by email] and how to display them in your home or office. Three universities will have manned tables with information about degrees in geology. Free rock and fossil identification — bring in your unknowns. Outside will feature refreshed fossil and mineral dig piles, guided outer and Indiana shore fossil bed hikes. []

Sellersburg Celebrates!; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today; 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday;  Silver Creek Township Park; free. For the adults the things to check out include more than 100 food and craft booths and live entertainment throughout the weekend, closing with the Louisville Crashers at 8:15 p.m. Saturday. For the kids, especially the younger ones, a petting zoo will return this year, which was an addition to last year’s festival. For the teenage sect, an expanded area with carnival attractions and amusement rides will return. And for all ages, popular attractions like the balloon glow held at dusk on Friday night, the Sellersburg Celebrates! parade Saturday morning and a K9 show — which will be held several times during the weekend— will again be featured during the weekend’s festivities. Walking Tour of Downtown Jeffersonville; today; 6 p.m.; free. Meet at the Overlook on the riverfront, near the intersection of Spring Street and Riverside Drive, for a tour highlighting the East Riverside Drive neighborhood. Clark County historian Jeanne Burke will lead the tour, sharing stories about the neighborhood’s history, and architectural and historical information about the buildings. The tour will conclude in time for participants to return to Warder Park to enjoy a “Concert in the Park” at 7:30 featuring June Kelley Roy and Top Notch. []

Touch a Truck/Yard Sale; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Saturday, free. The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department’s 10th annual Touch a Truck program will be from 10 a.m. to noon in the area located behind the Clarksville Town Hall, 2000 Broadway St., Clarksville. The event will coincide with the popular 15th annual Clarksville Community Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Area businesses and organizations will display their vehicles, allowing children to get a hands-on experience. Will be held rain or shine.

• Bicentennial Concert Series; Bombadil; 6 p.m. today, Bicentennial Park, New Albany; free. Quirky four-piece and emerging critical darling Bombadil is a North Carolina-based band touring on the back of its latest album, “Metrics of Affection,” which was released in July. The band has been described by critics as a “combination of open-minded chamber folk and the bright and sunny pop music of the 1960s.” The origin of the band’s name also helps to describe its unusual sound. Bombadil is named after an obscure character in the Tolkien universe, whose music tells tales of loneliness, heartache, awkwardness, puppy love, suicide and murder-by-drowning, according to a news release from the band.
