UPDATE: Man arrested in domestic dispute

New Albany police, Metro SWAT respond

NEW ALBANY — A New Albany man was arrested Friday after police say he fired multiple shots from a handgun in his Greenaway Place home while his girlfriend and her 1-year-old child were also inside.

No one was injured during the incident

William J. Saleh, 28, has been preliminarily charged with criminal recklessness, a class D felony.

The New Albany Police Department received a call about 7 a.m. from a person in a neighboring home who reported hearing yelling and gun fire, NAPD Maj. Chief Keith Whitlow said.

Police responded to the home, but no one came to the door, so the Floyd County Metro SWAT team was called to the scene.

Whitlow said the SWAT officers established a perimeter and treated the scene as a possible hostage situation.

SWAT members were successful in making contact with the people inside the home, and were able to get the 23-year-old woman and child out of the home, and Saleh to exit minutes later about 9:30 a.m.

Each of the adults was questioned by investigators before Saleh was arrested by police.

Online court records did not show as of press time when Saleh will appear for his initial hearing.
