Pregnant woman injured in domestic dispute in Floyds Knobs

Man involved faces four felony charges

FLOYDS KNOBS — After reportedly strangling his pregnant ex-girlfriend, breaking her collar bone and holding her against her will, a man faces four felony charges and a misdemeanor.

Michael P. Dunn, 38, Eric Drive, Floyds Knobs, was arrested at his ex-girlfriend’s home on Sunday after a neighbor reported a physical altercation between a man and a woman to police.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Dunn visited his ex-girlfriend’s Floyds Knobs home to visit their 11-month-old son. She told officers he became angry after accusing her of trying to keep him from seeing their son. She said she tried to leave and accidentally knocked over his motorcycle.

The affidavit said after he attacked her, she tried to call 911. But Dunn knocked the phone from her hand, choked her and took her back into the house.

Floyd County Sheriff’s officers responded at about 8:45 p.m., noticing a broken potted plant and the victim’s cell phone in the front yard. The rooms inside the house had belongings thrown around.

After knocking on doors, windows and announcing themselves as police without any answer, another officer got a taped statement from the complainant, then got a warrant to search the home.

Officers entered through the open rear sliding glass door. Officers from Georgetown Police also responded to help clear the interior of the home. Dunn came up from the basement and was handcuffed after officers took him to the ground.

The woman screamed for help from the basement, where officers found her and her 11-month-old son on the floor. The boy wasn’t injured, but officers noted bleeding injuries on her face and back. She told officers she was 13 weeks pregnant with Dunn’s child.

Dunn also had a warrant for parole violation from the Branchville Correctional Facility.

After arriving at Floyd Memorial Hospital, officers were told by medical staff that Dunn’s ex-girlfriend would require surgery to repair her collar bone.

Dunn faces two class B felonies for aggravated battery causing protracted loss or impairment of bodily function and criminal confinement resulting in serious bodily injury. He also faces a class C felony of battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman and a class D felony of strangulation.

For knocking the phone out of her hand in her front yard, Dunn faces a class A misdemeanor of interference with the reporting of a crime. The charges were filed Monday.
