Meeting to detail historic district expansion plan in New Albany

East Spring Street historic district to be discussed Sept. 26.

NEW ALBANY — There will be a public hearing on the proposed expansion of the East Spring Street historic district at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 26.

The district currently covers roughly from East Spring Street to the north of Market Street between East 5th and East 11th streets.

Under the expansion proposal, the district would encompass Elm Street to the east of Vincennes Street and west toward downtown.

The public hearing will be held in the gymnasium of St. John Presbyterian Church, which is located at 1307 E. Elm St. The meeting will include discussion on the National Register and what the expansion could mean.

Property owners and residents living within the proposed expansion area are encouraged to attend the meeting. For more information, call New Albany Historic Preservation Commission Administrator Laura Renwick at 812-284-4534.
