‘Spay Now or Stay Stupid’ to feature free cat alterations

Donations, sponsorships being accepted by NA-FC Shelter for event

NEW ALBANY — In honor of World Spay Day, which is Thursday, Feb. 28, the New Albany-Floyd County Animal Shelter will alter 30 cats for free. Preregistration is required and the shelter only has spaces left for male cats.

Cats will receive a rabies vaccination if not current. A $5 license fee is required, and optional microchipping will be available.

The program is limited to Floyd County residents with proof of income that is less than $30,000 a year.

The shelter event is titled “Spay Now or Stay Stupid,” and it’s in conjunction with The Humane Society of the United State’s annual World Spay Day.

“Spay [or] neuter saves pets’ lives while lessening the burden on animal shelters and taxpayers,” said NA-FC Shelter Director David Hall. “In today’s economy, many people cannot afford to have their pet or the local neighborhood cat altered. This only contributes to pet overpopulation.”

The shelter is also accepting donations from people or organizations that would like to sponsor a cat alteration. For more information, visit the website nafcanimalshelter.org, or call 812-948-5355.
