New Albany fires Malysz

Administration hasn’t given reason for firing of community housing initiatives director

NEW ALBANY — Carl Malysz was fired last week from Mayor Jeff Gahan’s administration, as he had served as Director of Community Housing Initiatives since 2012.

Malysz was Deputy Mayor under Mayor Doug England from 2008 to 2011, and had worked with several administrations prior to being dismissed.

Michael Hall, head of operations for the city, confirmed in an e-mail last Friday that Malysz was no longer with the administration. A reason for his termination as an employee hasn’t been given by the Gahan administration.

Most recently, Malysz had been charged with developing a comprehensive housing strategy for the city. He appeared to still be employed by the city as of Thursday, as he was seen conversing with Gahan and other officials during the New Albany City Council meeting.

Under England, Malysz oversaw the city’s grant application for the Midtown revitalization project, was the administration head for redevelopment activities and was involved with planning for the New Albany Bicentennial Park.

The News and Tribune contacted Malysz on Friday and Monday. He declined to comment on the story.
