Prom aid coming this weekend
The sixth-annual Prom Aid, sponsored by the Clark County 4-H Junior Leaders, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2, and Sunday, March 3, in the Community Building at the Clark County 4-H Fairgrounds, 9608 Ind. 62, Charlestown.
The collection of dresses and suits will be given away to any high school student from Clark, Floyd or neighboring counties. Nu Yale Cleaners has again agreed to clean the clothing for the giveaway. For more information call 812-256-4591.
Sheriff’s Association offering scholarships
Floyd County Sheriff Darrell Mills announced recently the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association will again be awarding college scholarships to qualified high school seniors or college students who are pursuing a degree in criminal justice. There will be approximately 40 $500 scholarships awarded to students throughout the state.
To qualify for a scholarship, the applicant must be an Indiana resident, be a current member of the association or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member of the association, attend an Indiana college or university, major in a law enforcement field and enroll as a full-time student.
Applications are available from high school counselors, the sheriff’s office or by writing the Indiana Sheriff’s Association, 147 East Maryland St., Indianapolis, IN 46204-3608. Applications can also be downloaded at indianasheriffs.org
Thrift shop hosting yard sale
Shopie’s Hope Thrift Shoppe, 3808 E. 10th St., Jeffersonville, will sponsor an “All-American Yard Sale” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the store.
Vendors are welcome for a $10 set-up fee. Proceeds will benefit rescued animals. For more information call 812-786-9324.
Tea Party to meet
The Clark County Tea Party invites the public to the group’s next meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Silver Creek Middle School, 495 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg.
The group will be showing part one of the movie “Setting the Record Straight: American History in Black and White.”
