From international influences to hometown touches of faith, and from parents receiving strength from their children to spouses being hailed for their influence, the tenor of this year’s seventh annual Giants in the Faith celebration once again points to ways in which people of all ages have helped others grow closer to God.
The community will gather from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 4, at Huber Winery’s Plantation Hall in Starlight for the luncheon sponsored by Hope Southern Indiana to recognize 25 Christians designated as 2013 Giants in the Faith. Individuals and couples had been submitted by members of the public who responded to the open invitation to honor those whose lives have touched their faith in significant ways.
The public is invited to enjoy their diverse stories and experience an afternoon of fellowship and inspiration while giving God the glory, according to event co-chair Jim Kanning. Doors will open at 1, and free activities will be offered afterward in the Family Farm Park there, along with free drink refills until 6 p.m.
Individuals, families and groups may make reservations now and before the deadline of Wednesday, July 17, at a cost of $25 for adults (ages 12 and older) and $20 for children (ages 4 to 11). Those ages 3 and under are admitted free.
Christine Harbeson, Hope Southern Indiana’s executive director, said the event is not a fundraiser, and prices are as low as possible to encourage families to attend.
Reservation forms, which must be submitted with payment, are available at Hope Southern Indiana at the Brown-Starks Neighborhood Place at 1200 Bono Road in New Albany between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays; at area churches; and printed in the News and Tribune on weekends until the July 17 deadline. To ensure accuracy and fairness to all attendees, no reservations can be accepted on the phone, email or voicemail.
