Teenager injured in Georgetown collision

Semi hits a car and sends boy, 17, to hospital

GEORGETOWN — A 17-year-old Harrison County boy is in the hospital after a fully loaded semitrailer struck his passenger car Wednesday afternoon in downtown Georgetown, Floyd County Sheriff’s Department Maj. Jeff Topping said.

Topping said the juvenile had pulled onto Ind. 64 from Greenville-Georgetown Road about 3:45 p.m. when the semitrailer hit his Pontiac convertible.

Topping said the teenager’s condition was not known, but his injuries are believed to be severe. The teenager was the only occupant in the vehicle, Topping said.

First responders called to have the juvenile air lifted to University of Louisville Hospital, but because of the inclement weather or a delay in the helicopter’s arrival, the child was transported by ambulance. Topping said it is likely the accident may have been a result of the heavy rain, but said the investigation had only begun.

He added that a stop sign is located on Greenville-Georgetown Road at the intersection, and the semitrailer had the right of way.
