Lanesville man arrested following area burglaries

Deputies find suspect sleeping with evidence

Members of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department woke up a Lanesville man sleeping in his home Sunday morning before placing him under arrest on burglary charges.

Patrick M. Goines, 22, of 8370 Corydon Ridge Road, was released from the Floyd County Jail only three days earlier following an unrelated theft conviction.

Goines is believed to be connected to a home break-in, two vehicle break-ins and two attempted home break-ins leading to his most recent arrest.

All the incidents have recently taken place and each occurred on the same street as Goines’ home, FCSD Maj. Jeff Topping said Monday.

Topping said a male relative contacted authorities Sunday morning and said that Goines was asleep in the home and surrounded by stolen property.

Topping and another FCSD official responded to the home about 10:30 a.m.

After Goines was awakened, he was found in possession of items from a home burglary that was reported the night before, and from a recent vehicle break-in.

The stolen property included two credit cards, cash, a Nintendo DS, and jewelry, including a St. Xavier High School class ring.

Topping said Goines is preliminarily charged in stealing from one of the vehicles a box of oatmeal cookies, a carton of Marlboro cigarettes and a man’s wedding ring.

The ring has not been located by authorities.

Topping said it is fortunate that the jewelry theft took place over the weekend because Goines didn’t have the opportunity to sell goods at area pawn shops or jewelry stores, and the items are being returned to their proper owners.

While at the home, police were given by Goines’ family six syringes that, reportedly, were found in Goines’ bedroom.

Topping said the family stated that Goines is a heroin user.

He was convicted in May of D felony theft in a Floyd County court and was later found in violation of his probation and arrested on a warrant June 6, according to court documents. On June 17 he was released from the Floyd County Jail on his own recognizance.

Goines has been preliminarily charged with burglary and attempted burglary, both class B felonies, and three counts theft/receiving stolen property, all class D felonies.

He has not yet been officially charged in a Floyd County court.
