Knobs park playground to be removed

New system to be installed at Letty Walter Park

The playground at Letty Walter Park in Floyds Knobs will soon be replaced. In the meantime, the park’s playground equipment will be removed.

“The best judgment is to pull the current equipment,” said Bill Koehler, New Albany-Floyd County Parks director. “The public recognizes it, and I recognize it.”

Koehler said it would take four to six weeks for the new equipment to arrive, and up to two weeks to install it.

“It’s unsafe,” Koehler said of the current system.

The new equipment will cost around $23,000 and has been purchased from Little Tykes Co. The money for the equipment will come from a lease payment the parks department received from Valley View Golf Club.

Koehler said no one has been hurt on the playground equipment, but he said it is outdated. He also said he would like to see new playgrounds installed at Gary Caven Park, Galena-Lamb Park and Greenville Park.

“We will get this one in and then look for ways to replace the others,” Koehler said.

• This weekend will be the final two days of the season for Camille Wright Pool. School begins Aug. 9 and Koehler said it’s not profitable to keep the pool open on weekends through Labor Day.

Once the pool closes Sunday, chlorine levels will be dropped in preparation for the dog swim Aug. 12. For $5, residents can let their dogs swim in the pool before it is drained for the winter.
