Slavery focus of play

The Hanover College Rivers Institute Traveling Show will present “Nothing Stops This Train” at the Thursday, July 18, meeting of the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society. The play, set in Jefferson County, is the story of abolitionists John and Sarah Tibbets and a slave named Georgina who helped other slaves escape via the Underground Railroad.

Meeting time is 7 p.m. in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany. For more information about the society, visit



Golf Scramble to occur July 20

Right to Life of Southern Indiana announced its third annual four-person charity golf scramble at Wooded View Golf Course in Clarksville on Saturday, July 20. There is an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Lunch will be served, followed by an awards presentation, and an auction of useful items following.

Golfers are invited to sign up as a foursome or individually to participate in this event that helps provide funding the K through 12 Value of Life contest, fair booth, newsletter and other activities in which the group promotes the sanctity of life.

Jane Austen festival set

The sixth-annual Jane Austen Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and July 21, at Historic Locust Grove, 561 Blankenbaker Lane, Louisville.
