IUS, Ivy Tech holding open house
Indiana University Southeast and Ivy Tech Southern Indiana will co-host a special open house geared specifically to Ivy Tech students.
The open house will help Ivy Tech students interested in transferring and completing their four-year degree at IU Southeast learn the steps necessary to accomplish the move. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 24, at Ivy Tech Southern Indiana in Sellersburg, 8204 Old Ind. 311.
IU Southeast representatives will be on hand to discuss admissions, transfer credits, financial aid, academic programs, student services, housing and campus life. IU Southeast Interim Chancellor Barbara Bichelmeyer and Ivy Tech Southern Indiana Chancellor Rita Shourds will provide remarks at 11 a.m.
Ivy Tech students who are interested in transferring may bring their transcripts and talk to representatives to determine admission eligibility.
FCHS hosting soccer camp
The Floyd Central High School soccer team will be hosting a fall prep soccer camp for boys and girls ages 7 to 17 from July 25 through July 27 at the FCHS soccer fields.
Ages 7 to 11 will attend from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and ages 12 to 17 will attend from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Players will be able to prepare for a higher level of play by training and learning with some of the region’s best coaches and players at one of the top soccer facilities in the area. The goal is to offer individual, technical and tactical training that lead to improved group play prior to fall season kickoff.

Cancer awareness event coming up
A cancer awareness benefit for Greg Balmer will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the VFW Hobart Beach Post, 1919 Grant Line Road, in New Albany.
There will be both a live and silent auction, 50/50 raffles, live music by the Bella Blue Band and food will be available. Some of the auction items include a condo stay in Destin Beach, limo services and gift certificates from local businesses.
Balmer was Floyd County coroner for 10 years and deputy coroner for 10 years and has been a member of the Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years.
There has been an account set up at any Your Community Bank locations for those wanting to make a donation to help Balmer with medical expenses. For information call Jackie Brannon at 502-338-7249.
Library group holding sale
Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Library will host a book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, in the library’s Annex Building, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany.
All theater and movie books will be discounted by 50 percent. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks; 50 cents for videos, DVDs and paperbacks; 25 cents for audio book cassette tapes; and 10 cents for magazines and music cassette tapes. Children’s books are available at prices of $1 or less.
It’s a girl’s night at the library
Charlestown Library, 51 Clark Road, Charlestown, will sponsor a “Girls’ Night Out” at 6 p.m. Monday, July 22, at the library.
The group will watch one of Nicholas Sparks’ popular movie adaptations. Feel free to bring a mother, a sister or friends.
