Dispose of unwanted pesticides

An Indiana Pesticide Clean Sweep Project designed to collect and dispose of unwanted pesticides is being sponsored by the Office of Indiana State Chemist. The program will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Clark County 4-H Center, 9608 Ind. 62, Charlestown.

This disposal service is free of charge up to 250 pounds per participant. A $2-per-pound fee will be assessed on top of that.

Participants must fill out a Pesticide Clean Sweep Planning Form by Monday, July 29, and return it to Kevin Neal at the OISC. Forms are available from the Clark County Extension office at the fairgrounds.

In conjunction with the Clean Sweep program, the fairgrounds will host a used oil collection the same day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 812-256-2330, ext. 110 for more information. On farm oil, pickup will be available for those making an appointment before the collection day.

Take a trip to Cedar Farm

Have you heard about Cedar Farm in Laconia? Would you like to visit the only antebellum plantation-like property in Indiana?

The public is invited to a program Thursday, Oct. 10 at Cedar Farm — the only antebellum plantation-type property in Indiana — that includes transportation from Jeffersonville to Cedar Farm and return with lunch serves. The cost for the entire day — lunch, transportation, and program is $50 per person.

You also can join the Southern Indiana Minority Enterprise Initiative at its third-annual conference, “A Progressive Journey through Indiana History,” which will be held Oct. 9-11.

Learn more about square dancing

Sunnyside Solo’s Square Dance Club will be hosting open houses at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 and Aug. 16.

A variety of delicious melons will be served Aug. 2. On Aug. 16, guests will make their own ice cream sundaes.

Anyone interested in square dancing can come to an open house and try it for free. The open houses will b held at Wesley Chapel-Grant Line Church, 4810 Grant Line Road, New Albany. For more information, call 812-945-0878.
