Brandon’s House golf scramble

Brandon’s House will hold its annual golf scramble Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Old Capital Golf Club in Corydon.

There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Cost is $85 per player and $340 per team.

Golfers may bring their own teams or have one provided for them. The cost includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, green fees and lunch. Prizes will be awarded for first and last place, and there will be contests for the longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and longest putt.

Door prizes will also be handed out. Golfers may register by calling 812-949-2499. Anyone interested in sponsoring a hole for $100 may call this number, too. A sign will be placed by the sponsored hole with an individual’s or organization’s name on it.


Trash force holding annual meeting

Trash Force is holding its annual meeting and celebrating its 23rd birthday at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Carriage House, 11th Street between Main and Market streets, New Albany.

Bring a dish to share — with fried chicken and a drink furnished. Members can attend for free, and admission for visitors is $10, which earns a person a membership.

Friends book sale Saturday

The Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the library’s Annex Building, located at the corner of Scribner Drive and Spring Street, New Albany.

All books dealing with health and medicine will be discounted by 50 percent. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks; 50 cents for videos, DVDs and paperbacks; 25 cents for audio book cassette tapes; and 10 cents for magazines and music cassette tapes. Children’s books are available for $1 or less.

Baby contest set for Saturday

Community Women For Unity and Equality is sponsoring a baby contest at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at First Baptist Church, 3725 St. Joseph Road, New Albany.

Vote for your favorite baby at $1 per vote or six votes for $5. First place wins $200, second place, $100 and third place, $50.

Barbecue dinner planned

The Men of Trinity United Methodist Church, 2796 Charlestown Road, New Albany, will hold its 11th annual pulled pork/barbecue dinner from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the church.

Smoked pulled pork dinners that include pulled pork sandwiches, slaw, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, drinks and desserts are available for either dine-in or take-out; $5 for children 4-11 and $8 for adults. Everyone is welcome.

Academy hosts 4-miler

The community can participate in the fifth annual Warrior 4-Miler hosted by Christian Academy of Indiana at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21.

Runners and walkers alike will enjoy and be challenged by the course, which winds through the school campus and Sam Peden Community Park. Packet pick-up and late registration will be available at Christian Academy of Indiana, 1000 Academy Drive, the day of the event, 8 to 8:45 a.m. Parking is available at the school.

Library to celebrate ‘Meatballs’

The Charlestown Public Library will celebrate the classic story “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.

The event will feature Regal Cinemas’ Allison Eve, who will read this popular picture book aloud as well as tell the kids about the upcoming movie sequel. Children will then make a spaghetti and meatballs hat to wear home.

Church hosting pig roast Friday

Sellersburg United Methodist Church, 226 N. New Albany St., Sellersburg, will sponsor a pig roast from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 20.

Drive-thru will be available for carry-out dinners. There also will be desserts and drawings for two $100 gift cards. Prices are: adult meal $10; child’s meal $5. Tickets are sold in advance. For more information, call the church office at 812-246-2502.


High school rodeo Sept. 28-29

There will be a high school rodeo competition Sept. 28-29 at Lanesville Heritage Park, 2800 Memory Lane, Lanesville.

The competition will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 28 and 2 p.m. Sept. 29. Admission is $5. Children 10 and under are free.
