Less than three hours left to claim lottery ticket sold in Jeffersonville

Prize worth $1 million bought at Circle K on April 10; deadline is 5 p.m.

JEFFERSONVILLE — The final day is here for whoever bought a $1 million-winning Powerball ticket sold in southern Indiana six months ago to claim the prize.

The ticket for the April 10 Powerball drawing was sold at a Circle K convenience store in Jeffersonville, according to Hoosier Lottery officials. The ticket matched the first five numbers, but not the Powerball number.

The winning numbers for that drawing were: 1-36-40-52-53 and Powerball 20.

The ticket needs to be presented at the Hoosier Lottery offices in Indianapolis by 5 p.m. Monday to meet the 180-day deadline.

Lottery officials point out that the ticket was sold during a busy spring break travel time — and the store is near the major north-south route of Interstate 65 a few miles from Louisville.

“We’re reaching out across the state to get the word out, because the winning ticket could be anywhere,” said Sarah Taylor, executive director of the Hoosier Lottery.

Some Indiana lottery winners have made late claims on big prizes before, such as when an Indianapolis couple turned in a ticket winning a $2.5 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot just days before the deadline in 2010 after checking some old tickets.

Indiana has also had some big winning tickets that were never turned in. One was for a $50 million Powerball jackpot from 2002, along a $5 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot in 2004.

The money from unclaimed prizes remains in the lottery’s prize payout fund, which increases the amount of lottery profits that go to the state, according to the agency.
