NEW ALBANY

‘The Mikado’ continues at NAHS

We may marvel at the long runs of “Cats” or “A Chorus Line” or “Wicked,” but one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most famous productions, “The Mikado,” had a 1,000-performance run in 1885 and 1886, when most of its audience was largely horse-bound.

In the nearly 130 years since, it has been performed by professional and amateur tens of thousands of time since, with another incarnation at Southern Indiana’s New Albany High School Sunday and Monday, May 12 and May 13. The principal roles for the two performances will be portrayed by Nick Johnson, Colleen McDonald, Kyle Bolen, Hanae Togami, Libby Schuld, Tara Smith, Jareth Gaddis, Jack Amend and David Kane.

The performances will be at 7;30 p.m. both days at the New Albany High School Auditorium. Adult general admission tickets are $10 and those for students are $5. They will be available at the door.

Tea, fashion show set for Sunday

A Mother’s Day tea and fashion show will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at the Masonic Lodge, 805 E. Market St., New Albany.

Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for children 16 and younger. For more information, call Pat Harrison at 812-989-4663.

NA-FC Library hosting pet fair

The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library is hosting the eighth annual pet fair from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the library’s annex parking lot, at the corner of Scribner Drive and Spring Street.

Individuals representing several organizations will be available to provide information on pet health, rescue groups, pet adoption and other pet-related needs. There will be adoptable pets at the fair and some will be able to be adopted on the spot. There will be a pet costume parade beginning at 2:30 p.m. with prizes for the best dressed pet.

All animals must be on leashes. For more information call Reference Services Desk at 912-949-3523.
