Photos to benefit animal group
Poe’s Pet Depot, 291 N. Hubbards Lane, Suite 165 in the Woodlawn Shopping Center, Louisville, is hosting a “Pet Pictures with the Easter Bunny” event to benefit Jeffersonville-based Kentuckiana Animal Rescue Organization.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 13. A photo of a pet and the Easter bunny will be available for a $10 donation. The rescue volunteers also are hosting a bake sale and a table of raffle items to further support the rescue effort.
Kentuckiana Animal Rescue Organization (KARO) is a nonprofit all-breed animal rescue organization. The group’s focus is mainly centered on saving

APA holding microchip drive
Animal Protection Association is hosting a microchip event from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at the Animal Protection Association, 702 E. 11th St., Jeffersonville.
The charge is $15 per animal.
Family Ark hosting fundraiser
Family Ark’s Giving Hope to Families fundraiser will be from 6 to 9 p.m. April 24 in the Lodge on the Family Ark campus, 101 Noah’s Lane, Jeffersonville.
The event will feature food from Huber’s Catering, music by local musician Todd Hildreth and exciting auction items. During the event to benefit child and family programs in Southern Indiana, the 2014 Champion for Families award winner will be announced. The emcee will be Angie Fenton from “Great Day Live!”
A Family Ark foster teen will speak about his experiences and successes within his foster family and community.

Brain injury group to meet
The April meeting of the Southern Indiana Traumatic Brain Injury Foundation will be held at 7 p.m. April 17 in the Education Conference Room at Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital, 3104 Blackiston Blvd., New Albany.
Executive Director Lora Miller from the Brain Injury Association of Indiana will be the guest speaker. Refreshments will be served.

Art supplies to be collected
In conjunction with the New Albany-Floyd County Secondary Schools Art Show, the Carnegie Center will host an Art & Craft Supplies Free Store from noon to 4 p.m. April 19 at the Carnegie Center, 520 E. Market St., New Albany.
Supplies can be dropped off at the Carnegie Center April 15-18 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or brought in the day of the event.
Any supplies that are left at the end of the event will be collected by the NA-FC students for use in their school art projects.
NA-FC library hosting intercambio
Do you want to practice speaking Spanish? Practice your language skills at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.
The library is having an intercambio every month from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Applegate Room on the lower level of the library. The next meeting is scheduled for April 19.
There will be a bilingual facilitator there who will assist with communication. Staff will also have questions in English and Spanish to help build vocabulary and help with ideas for topics of conversation as well as Spanish/English dictionaries. Participants are encouraged to bring a tablet and a pen or pencil for note taking.
German students hosting pancake breakfast
German students from New Albany High School will be hosting a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s, 3030 Grant Line Road, New Albany, from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12.
Tickets are $7 for all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage. Proceeds will go toward the cost of the student’s Germany trip which they are taking in October.
Kindergarten registration set
Borden Elementary School will hold kindergarten registration for the 2014-15 school year from 11:30 to 2 p.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Borden Elementary School gymnasium.
Parents should enter school through the front office and receive a visitor’s pass. Students must turn 5 on or before Aug. 1 to be eligible to enroll in kindergarten. Kindergarten is fully funded and is full day, 8 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.
Items needed at registration are: birth certificate, shot records and proof of residency.
Camp Kindergarten will be held at 6 p.m. May 15 Borden Elementary School Group Presentation Room. Sponsored by Communities in Schools, students and their parents will meet the kindergarten teachers and learn what is expect in kindergarten. Students will get to ride a bus.
Celebrated Shakespeare’s 450th
For Shakespeare’s 450th birthday, come bite your thumb at ye old King’s man. To have a right, rip-roarious time, the Sellersburg Library will have a silly sonnet contest and attendees can watch the Reduced Shakespeare Co. and create Shakespearean insults.
