New Albany man struck by car and killed on I-64 identified

FLOYD COUNTY — The man stuck and killed by a car after crashing his own vehicle on Interstate 64, near Georgetown has been identified.

Joseph Andrew Fischer, 20, was hit struck after his Ford Taurus left the roadway around mile marker 116. He was walking away from the wreck when he was hit in the travel portion of the interstate, according to news partner WAVE 3 News.

Floyd County Sheriff Darrell Mills told WAVE 3 that Fischer had swerved off the interstate and crashed.

The wreck happened about 9:50 p.m. in the eastbound lanes.

Mills said no charges are expected to be filed and officers are calling Fischer’s death an accident. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.
