Weather Blog: Rain possible after parade on Saturday

— We’ve made it to another weekend ... and a busy one it is!

A large contingent from WAVE 3 News will be marching in the Harvest Homecoming Parade on Saturday. Fitting with the theme “Harvest of History,” we’ll celebrate our 65th anniversary as the area’s oldest television station. We like to claim that it never rains on “our” parade, but that’s not always true.

It appears the highest rain chance will be late Saturday evening and even more likely on Sunday as a powerful cold front will moves across the region. Clouds will increase ahead of the front and there’s still the possibility for a few showers Saturday, but mainly later in the day.  Rain totals will exceed a quarter of an inch in places. I know the timing of the rain on the weekend isn’t always our first choice, but considering the fact that October is typically our driest month, we’ll take it! October is a month of change in our weather across the Ohio Valley. We lose more than an hour of daylight this month and we typically see our first frost and freeze during October.  Believe it or not we’ve even measured snow during the month ... the earliest snowfall to ever occur was a trace on October 3, 1980. While there’s no snow in our forecast temperatures look to cool back into the 70s for much of next week.
