Seniors Angel Tree program nears

The 2012 Senior Citizen’s Angel Tree project of LifeSpan Resources Inc., the Area Agency on Aging for Clark, Floyd, Harrison and Scott counties, will officially get under way Friday, Nov.  9.

LifeSpan has coordinated this project for the past 24 years and has already kicked it off in a big way by assisting a client with disabilities in purchasing a service dog after the client’s previous service dog passed on.

The agency has streamlined the Senior Angel Tree project and we will not have an adoption booth at Green Tree Mall this year. We will for the first time make “Angels” available for adoption via lifespanresources.org and on Facebook. Angels can also be adopted in person at the agency at 33 State St., third floor, New Albany (in the YMCA building) or by calling 812-948-8330. Businesses, civic organizations or churches wanting to help can call or email ebennett@lsr14.org.

Free safe driving course offered

AARP Driver Safety Program is honoring veterans and their families in November by offering veterans the four hour Safe Driving course for free.

The course will be noon to 4:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, at the Clarksville Library, 1312 Eastern Blvd., Clarksville. The course is geared to help people 50 and older adjust their driving to the effects of aging on older drivers. It also covers, rules of the road, changes in car technology, how to drive on interstates, etc. Many insurance companies give their clients a discount if they have a certificate from this course.

Nonveterans can also register for the class at the regular rate of $12 for AARP Members and $14 for nonmembers.

For more information or to register, call Patty at 812-944-4327.
