NEW ALBANY

5K to help Angel Tree is Saturday

Miles for Merry Miracles announced that registration for the 2012 Miles for Merry Miracles 5K Fun Run/Walk to benefit Angel Tree children has officially. The race will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the New Albany Amphitheater. Entry for the event is the participant's pledge to adopt an Angel. Day-of registration starts at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Miles for Merry Miracles is a youth-driven, nonprofit organization based out of Southern Indiana. A partner with the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program to provide a Christmas to children in need.

Cookie Walk at church

Park Christian Church, 2231 Green Valley Road, New Albany, will sponsor a cookie walk from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the church.

There will be a large assortment of homemade cookies available for $8 per pound. Gift wrapping is also available.

JEFFERSONVILLE

Cooking, sewing programs upcoming

The Jeffersonville Parks Department will host its next session of the Sticky Fingers Cooking Club from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 22. The program is for kids ages 7-11. Cost is $5.

The In Stitches kids sewing club will also meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 22 for kids ages 9-11. The cost is  $5.

Cookie Stroll set for Saturday

Jeffersonville’s Holiday Cookie Stroll will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.

The second-annual event is limited to 250 people. Participants can stroll from shop to shop and collect one cookie from each shop before the Light Up the Holidays Parade on Spring Street.

Tickets are $2 per person and will be available for sale at Sugar Maples Antiques, 109 W. Maple Street; Schimpff’s Confectionery, 347 Spring St.; and Choices/CCF Boutique, 437 Spring St. The parade starts at the south end of Spring Street at 5 p.m. and proceeds northward to Court Avenue. The city’s light up ceremonies take place in Warder Park from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. complete with music, dancing, refreshments and a visit from Santa.
