Get chicken-to-go Sunday

St. Joe Hill Catholic Church, 2605 St. Joe Road West, Sellersburg, is hosting a “chicken-to-go” fundraiser from 11 a.m. until the food is gone, usually around 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 3, at the church.

The carry-out dinner includes the popular St. Joe Hill fried chicken, french fries, baked beans and famous SJH slaw. White meat dinners are $7; dark meat dinners are $6.

Library sponsoring book swap

The Clarksville branch of the Jeffersonville Township Public Library, 1312 Eastern Blvd., Clarksville, will sponsor a book swap from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the library.

Bring in the books you would like to exchange and trade them for books that others have brought in. For more information, call the library at 812-285-5640.



Robotic club forming

Clark County 4-H Robotics Club is now forming. This new club is designed to introduce students to the concepts of design and programming utilizing LEGO Mindstorms robotics kits as well as develop leadership, problem solving and teamwork skills. 

This program is open to any youth throughout Clark Country but will be expected to enroll in the County 4-H Program to become a member and the program fee is $25. The payment covers insurance and programming materials.

The Clark County 4-H Robotics Club will meet the first and third Mondays starting in February — including Monday, Feb. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Clark County 4-H Center, 9604 Ind. 62, Charlestown, in the community building. Space is limited. Call the Purdue Extension Clark County Office at 812-256-4591 to register.



Recovery benefit coming Saturday

The Serenity House Counseling and Center is sponsoring a Rock 4 Recovery benefit, bringing awareness to the community about drugs and alcohol. It is scheduled from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Kye’s I & II, 500 Missouri Avenue, Jeffersonville.

The event is In honor of Brian “B.J.” Denney and William Dee “W.D.” Cundiff. Tickets are $25 and proceeds go to support the Serenity House Counseling and Support Center. Tickets are available at the Jeffersonville Mayor’s Office. Ask for Judith Vanguilder.

Live music, food and guest speakers are on the agenda.



VFW hosting Valentine’s Day dance

The Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Hobart Beach Post 1693 and the New Albany Optimist Club are hosting a Valentine dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 9, at the post — 1919 Grant Line Road, New Albany.

Admission is $5 per person. The admission cost includes shacks. Music will be provided by DJ Gene.

DePauw hosting tailgate dinners

DePauw Methodist Church, 903 Vincennes St., New Albany, will be holding a tailgate dinner before the NAHS basketball game from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today, Feb. 1. 

The menu will include meatloaf, baked beans, corn pudding, fried apples, homemade dessert and a drink. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 12 and 5 and younger eat for free.

DePauw also will be holding a tailgate dinner before from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2. The menu will include pork tenderloin, sweet potatoes, cole slaw, corn muffins, homemade dessert and a drink.

Events set for Bulldog Pride

The following events are scheduled as part of New Albany High School Bulldog Pride week:

Today, the theme is “I bleed Red and Black” for a blood drive and all are encouraged to wear New Albany gear. The Providence boys basketball game is tonight and the theme is a “red out.”

On Saturday, Feb. 2, the boys’ basketball team is playing Jennings County for homecoming and alumni night. Students will be displaying the block “N” in the cheer block. Adults are being asked to wear white for the Jennings County game so the red “N” stands out even more.


VFW post hosting chili supper

VFW Hobart Beach Post 1693 Ladies Auxiliary, 1919 Grant Line Road, New Albany, will host a chili supper beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2.
