Bids come in for Spring Street entrance project

Last of the joint parks funds split

NEW ALBANY — TSI Paving submitted the lowest bid to construct the Spring Street gateway project in New Albany.

On Tuesday, the New Albany Board of Public Works and Safety opened six bids that had been proposed to the city. New Albany-based TSI Paving’s base bid was $174,994, with its offer including alternative features for the project coming in at $206,792.

The board agreed to take the bids under advisement with a vote to accept a proposal to likely come next week. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $150,000 to $200,000.

The project is to include new medians, signage and the extension of curbs along the Spring Street entrance to New Albany from Clark County.

Funds settled for parks split

The remaining funds from the New Albany-Floyd County Parks Department were divided by the board of works Tuesday.

There were three funds left from the joint venture totaling $263,338, and the sides agreed to split them based on the original funding agreement. New Albany retained 53 percent of the money, and Floyd County will receive 47 percent of the funds based on the deal.

The joint parks department was split by the city last year primarily over funding discrepancies, as the county had failed to equally foot the venture in recent years.

Improvements coming around federal building

An Indianapolis company and a contractor presented the board of works with details of its plan to replace the sidewalk around the Lee Hamilton Federal Building off Spring Street in downtown New Albany.

Along with sidewalk replacement, the contractor also will repair steps and other features of the entrances to the building. The project is set to start April 1, and the contractor has a work order extending for 180 days.

The sidewalk around the building will be closed for a portion of the construction. The project is being funded through the federal government.
